Only 1 of the 6 labels gives a shade number. Two count years of stains. None tells you your starting shade, and Colgate Canada listed no whitening strip.
What the Renewal label lists
On Renewal Brilliant Shine, the medicinal ingredient is the fluoride; peroxide sits in the non-medicinal list.[3] Two Renewal versions print 3% and 5%.[1][3]
What your smile costs you
Shown the same applicants with and without an imperfect smile, hiring managers judged the ones with flaws 52% less employable.[5] GENERAL: the whole smile changed. Adults rated the same faces on 12 traits, including success and intelligence, and whitened teeth scored highest (COLOUR: only tooth colour changed).[6] Colour is a part of a smile you can change without drilling.
Does whitening toothpaste work? About 2 tabs over plain paste
Whitening paste lifts surface stain, and its shade effect is small. Pooled across 3 trials and 1,322 people, whitening toothpaste beat ordinary toothpaste by about 2 shade-guide tabs.[7]
In a 75-person, 2-week trial, a blue-covarine whitening paste matched ordinary paste on shade.[8] A 10% carbamide peroxide gel worn at home 4 hours a night moved colour more than either.[8]
Colgate’s own Canadian guide says bleaching, in the chair or with trays, usually moves teeth five to seven shades.[10] Its only paste label with a shade number claims as much as 4, after 6 weeks.[1]
Chart: what each Colgate promise asks of you
The overnight pen: peroxide at 3%, 14 nights advised, no reading
Colgate’s pen page claims 15 years of stains gone in 1 week, and advises two weeks for best results.[2] Health Canada asks for a clinical saliva study when a cosmetic whitening product holds more than 3% of hydrogen peroxide equivalents.[11] The pen’s label sits at that line.[2]

A lab test ran four overnight pens, among them an Optic White LED pen and Colgate’s Luminous White pen, 8 hours a night for 10 nights.[12] Colour change came out level across all four.[12] One pen from another brand softened enamel.[12]
Follow the label. Tooth pain, bleeding gums or one tooth yellower than the rest means a dentist visit first.

How we made this guide
Built from 8 Colgate Canada pages, 2 retailer listings, Health Canada guidance and 1 Ottawa clinic price page. Plus 7 published studies and UpWhiten’s own quiz answers. Outside numbers trace to these sources; studio figures come from UpWhiten’s own records.
Method and data
Labels. On 28 October 2026 we opened 8 Colgate Canada pages: 3 listings, the Optic White hub, 3 product pages and 1 guide. We copied each strength, promise and ingredient list word for word, then searched every page for shade, measure and strip.
Prices. The same day we read well.ca’s Colgate whitening category and an amazon.ca search for the pen. Walmart and Shoppers Drug Mart refused our browser, so no price comes from them. Download the label and price table (CSV).
Time on teeth. 2 brushings a day for the days on each label, at Colgate Canada’s two minutes each.
Our quiz. One answer per person to the UpWhiten Smile Assessment, November 2023 to October 2026, counted on our own computer. Only shares leave it: quiz shares (CSV).
Studies. Each study was opened on PubMed and every quoted number checked against its abstract. COLOUR marks studies that changed tooth colour only; GENERAL marks studies of the whole smile. Two studies name Colgate products, and the page says which.

Can Colgate whiten teeth in 3 days?
No Colgate label in Canada promises a change in 3 days. The shortest claim is the pen's 1 week, with two weeks advised.[2]
