Teeth whitening cost: strips, Ottawa dentists and veneers compared

8 Ottawa dental office pages print a whitening price, and they run from $189 to $1,200 for one treatment. Take-home trays run $100 to $300 at one office and $300 to $600 at another.

A box of Crest strips costs $54.99 to $78.99 at Well.ca. One veneer costs $800 to $1,200 a tooth in Ottawa. Insurance pays nothing toward whitening, and the bill comes back when the colour does. There is a way to know your number first, and this guide ends with it.

How much does teeth whitening cost at an Ottawa dentist?

Most Ottawa dentists will not print a whitening price. We read 71 Ottawa dental office websites on 18 October 2026, and only 8 posted one. The other 63 print no price.

Only 2 of the 8 state a fee as their own. 4 print what they call a typical Ottawa range, and 2 more print a range without saying whose. The ranges disagree: one says chair whitening starts at $300, another at $600.

0 of the 8 say whether HST is included. Whitening is a taxable cosmetic service, so ask whether the 13% is in the price. [11]

Why a dentist's price arrives after the exam

A dentist prices one round, and nobody can tell you before you pay how many rounds your teeth will need. That is the old way, and the offices say so on their own pages.

7 of the 8 offices that post a price also say the result fades or needs touch-ups. 3 of the 8 say heavier stains or your goal can take more sessions, and one adds that this increases the overall cost.

The research says the same about the old way. On dentist-prescribed trays, whitening held for 6 months in half the people treated. [5] In chair whitening, the typical shade-guide result levelled off by the second or third session. [4]

In 66 public patient discussions of whitening prices, 16 raised the cost of refills or top-ups (coded CSV).

The rounds are the guesswork, and guesswork is what you pay for twice. A whiter smile does not have to work that way.

Insurance and tax add to the bill: no coverage, plus 13% HST

The Canadian Dental Care Plan lists “cosmetic treatment, including teeth whitening” among the services it never covers. [9] The Canada Revenue Agency also rules whitening out of the medical expense credit. [10]

Whitening strips cost less per box and take far more applications

A kit of strips is cheap, and the kit is where the cost starts. In one trial, strips needed about 32 applications of 30 minutes to reach what 3 applications of 15 minutes reached in the chair. [1]

The label leaves the count to you. 0 of the 22 strip and pen labels we read say how many kits your starting shade will need. Crest's only number is a cap: “Use up to two kits per year.”

Veneers cost the most, and nearly half need more work within 10 years

Veneers are the expensive way to a white smile. Bayshore Dental Centre puts Ottawa veneers at $800 to $1,200 a tooth. BluSky Dental Centrepointe prints $800 to $1,500 each.

Where smiles are a business, the price climbs. A Beverly Hills cosmetic dentist prints $4,500 to $6,500 a tooth.

And veneers do not stay done. Records of 2,562 veneers showed only 53% lasted 10 years without more work. [2] Whitening leaves the tooth's shape as it is.

What yellower teeth cost you at work

The bigger cost is the one nobody invoices. You want to walk into an interview and be judged on what you say.

Shown the same job applicants with and without dental flaws, hiring managers judged the ones with flaws 52% less employable. [6] That study changed the whole smile, not just its colour.

Colour alone moves the verdict. When researchers changed only tooth colour on the same faces, people rated the yellowed teeth lower, and the whitened teeth highest. [7]

Economists put a number on healthy teeth. Women raised on fluoridated water earned about 4% more. [15] That figure is about healthier teeth in general, not colour.

The fix pays back in how you feel. Across nine trials and 489 people, whitening raised dental self-confidence. [8]
